# A Sonnet Upon the Untimely Demise of a Verdant Friend
O gentle leaf that once did stretch toward light,
With fronds of emerald that graced mine hall,
What villainous and treacherous miscreant's blight
Did strike thee down within thy earthen thrall?
Thou didst demand so little from this world—
A splash of water, sunshine's golden kiss,
Yet some dark fiend, whose cruel heart unfurled,
Did rob us of thy photosynthetic bliss.
We knew thee not as one to cause offense;
Thy only crime was being verdant, fair—
A silent martyr to such violence,
The victim of a most sinister affair.
Yet in our hearts, dear plant, thou shalt remain,
A testament to love—and window pane.
